CHICAGO, March 1, 2016 – Lower volatility helped drive the Spectrem Investor Confidence indices higher in February, according to a new report published in Spectrem Group’s High Net Worth Insights newsletter. The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Confidence Index (SMICI®) rose 5 points to 2, and the Spectrem Affluent Investor Confidence Index (SAICI®) edged upward 1 point to -3.
The survey was fielded between Feb. 16-17, when market volatility had begun to calm following double-digit declines in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq earlier in the month. For the first time this year, the indices have registered a decline in the number of affluent investors indicating they intend to remain on the investment sidelines.
Both indices were higher in February for Affluent investors who identify as Republicans compared with Democrats and Independents.
“While lower market volatility has begun to translate into increased confidence among affluent investors, wealthy investors still have significant concerns about the stability and direction of the U.S. economy,” Spectrem President George H. Walper, Jr. “The good news is that fewer investors say they intend to stay on the investing sidelines, a bullish indicator.”
The Confidence Indices were originally launched in February 2004 by Spectrem Group to measure the investment confidence and outlook of the 16MM households in America with more than $500,000 of investable assets (SAICI), and those with $1MM or more (SMICI).
